Lot Essay

A similar serpentine commode, but with four drawers and stop-fluted canted angles, was sold by Edward Hudson, Esq., the founder of Country Life, Christie's, London, 27 April 1937, lot 346 (100gns). Another was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 14 June 2001, lot 193 (£39,950) and another was sold from The Garrity Collection, Christie's, London, 8 June 2006, lot 79 (£31,200).
