Lot Essay

This form of tall chest, with seven graduated drawers, in the manner of a French semainier, is quite common in Ireland and does not appear to be found in England. A very similar example with graduated drawers, fluted sides, broken pediment and squared paw feet is in the collection of The Montgomery family, Convoy, Co. Donegal. (The Knight of Glin and J. Peill, Irish Furniture, New Haven and London, 2007, fig. 204, pg. 255).
