Lot Essay

The S-pattern keyhole and chamfered front rail below the drawer are characteristics of the work of Thomas Chippendale (for the S-pattern lock see C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, p. 147, fig. 267).
