Lot Essay

François-Honoré-Georges Jacob, dit Jacob-Desmalter (1770-1841), collaborated with his father, the celebrated Georges Jacob (1739-1814), between 1803 and 1814, using the stamp Jacob D. Rue Meslée, and managed the workshop until 1825, when he passed leadership onto his eldest son Alphonse-Georges.
This commode, with Pompeian columnettes and palm-wrapped capitals, is virtually identical to a commode in the Chateau de Fontainebleau, bearing the stamp of Francois-Honore-Georges Jacob, and dating from around 1810. (D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 319)
