Lot Essay

The present painting relates to a drawing in pen and ink with brown wash, heightened with red and white chalk, which measures 8 1/3 x 13 1/3 in. (212 x 338 mm.). It was last recorded as with Arturo Cuellar, Zurich, in 1997 (see The Burlington Magazine, CXXXIX, no. 1128, March 1997, p. xiii).
