Lot Essay

Based on a print by Nicolo Boldrini of Saint Catherine after a figure (in reverse) in Titian's altarpiece for S. Niccolò dei Frari, now at the Pinacoteca Vaticana, Rome (H.E. Wethey, Titian: The Religious Paintings, London, 1969, no. 63, pl. 23). Two impressions of the print are at the British Museum, London (inv. W,5.68 and 1895,0122.1222).
