Lot Essay

In a letter to the owner dated 28 May 1985, Prof. Richard C. Green attributed the painting to Molinari, and suggests that a preparatory drawing for the complete composition is in the Künstmuseum, Düsseldorf (see R. Green, 'Molinari Drawings in Düsseldorf', Master Drawings 22, No. 2, Winter 1984, no. 27).
