Rombout van Troyen is best known for cavernous scenes such as the present one, which appears to be one of his most ambitious in size and number of figures. Also unusually for the artist, it is fully signed and dated. Other versions of Solomon Sacrificing to the Idols were sold at Christie's New York in 1987 and 1990.
