Lot Essay

In a letter to Professor Held dated 21 November 1963, J.W. Niemeijer of the Rijksmuseum identified the town in the Dutch School drawing as Sloten. Niemeijer compared it to an 1835 drawing of the same view of the town by H.G. ten Cate.
