Lot Essay

Polish-born Maria Lani was a favorite subject of many french painters in Paris in the early 20th century. In 1928 the Joseph Brummer Gallery in New York organized an exhibition entitled Portraits of Maria Lani by Fifty-one Painters. Another portrait by Bosshard of Lani was included in this exhibition.
