The narrative against a gold ground commencing on the upper left corner with St. Nicholas appearing to Prince Mstislav in his sick-bed, the opposite corner showing the discovery of the miraculous circular icon of the Saint in the sea near the Isle of Lipna; the lower register depicting the presentation of the icon to Prince Mstislav and opposite a procession delivering the icon to the Church where the Prince was eventually healed; at the centre a round portrait of St. Nicholas as a reference to the miraculous icon
