Lot Essay

Jean-Baptiste Clesinger (1814-1883), began exhibiting at the Salon in 1863. Edited by Barbedienne in four sizes, the present reductions are examples of the second largest size, Clsinger also modelled both figures together as a group (an example of which sold Christie's, Paris, 21 June 2006, lot 351).
