Lot Essay

Born in 1837, a sculptor and an engraver, Ferdinand Levillain (d. 1905) was a pupil of Jouffroy. He exhibited at the Salon from 1861 onwards and was awarded a Silver Medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle. He became Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1892.
