The original, on canvas, 102 x 82 cm, executed circa 1555, has been in the Staatliche Museen, Berlin, since 1832 (H.E.Wethey, The Paintings of Titian, 1971, II p.115, no60, plate 191). The girl is traditionally identified as the Titian's daughter, Lavinia, based on comparison of a portrait claimed to be Lavinia as a bride (Wethey, no59). The tray of fruit suggests the possibility that the girl figures as Pomona.
