Lot Essay

The present portrait of King Frederick II of Prussia relates to a known portrait of his father, King Frederick Willhelm I, by Pesne executed in 1733 and illustrated in 'Die Gemälde Antoine Pesne in den Berliner Schlössern', no.24, p.39. The other portrait would appear to be a 19th century copy.
