The carving of the architectural motifs is inspired by furniture made in Southern India, mainly the Madras School of Art. The chair form is of a standard type made especially in the Bombay Presidency.

The caned back and seat with an intricately carved foliage cresting centred by a god within a temple, flanked on either side by palaces above serpents, the scrolled arms, seat and legs with foliate sides on animal head feet.
