A MAGNIFICENT WHITE JADE BRUSH POT, BITONG
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
Raised on five bracket supports, the sides well carved in relief with a continuous landscape with two immortals carrying ruyi sceptres accompanied by a crane and a young male attendant carrying a jar containing a trident, standing in a clearing framed by a large paulownia tree and a wutong tree, a crane in flight above and a remote pavilion in the distance, the reverse with a pair of deer on a ledge beneath an overhanging cliff, the translucent stone of even white tone with touches of pale russet coloring

Compare the white jade brush pot of smaller size (13 cm. high) raised on five bracket supports carved with a continuous landscape scene with sages and attendants in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 42 - Jadeware (II), Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 204-5, no. 167.
