THREE RARE SMALL JADE ANIMAL-FORM PENDANTS
LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 12TH-10TH CENTURY BC
Including a partially altered grey-green bird with spread wings, of concave profile, with a bullnose perforation below the tiny beak which is flanked by round eyes, with bifurcated tail, the legs and feet on the underside represented by grooved segments; a pale greyish-white tapering figure of a recumbent buffalo, with subtly beveled back and rump, the horns carved with angular scrolls, and the underside with grooved segments alluding to the folded legs, with a bullnose perforation through the mouth; a partially altered pale grey-green tapering figure of a crouching tiger, pierced through the sides of the wide, open jaws, the narrow eyes with raised outlines below slightly concave ears, with flat haunches and a slightly beveled, long curved tail, the legs and paws on the underside carved as grooved segments
