The semi-translucent stone of greenish-white color with opaque areas of pale brown color shading to dark brown, with some fissures, and satiny polish

Lot Essay

The short height and short collars, as well as the type of jade of this cong indicate it being from northwest China. For a similar example that also shows the same kind of alteration and fissures in the stone, see The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China - 15 - Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Beijing, 2005, p. 32, which was excavated from Qingxicun, Dingxi, Gansu province.
