In Oriental Lacquer Art, the author, Lee Yu-kuan, p. 157, notes that this dish, which is dated Yuan dynasty, 14th century, is particularly thick, and that a thicker dish is in the Yamato Bunkakan Museum in Nara.
A similar dish of the same size and date illustrated by James C.Y. Watt and Barbara B. Ford, East Asian Lacquer: The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1991, p. 53, no. 9, is dated late Yuan to early Ming, late 14th century.
