A PAIR OF CARVED JICHIMU ARMCHAIRS
19TH CENTURY
With S-shaped splats carved with bats suspending tassled chimes and twin fish above confronted archaistic kui dragons and a small panel carved with floral scrolls, surmounted by a shaped headrest and flanked by curved back rails terminating in dragon heads at the top and fenghuang heads at the bottom, supporting curved armrests terminating in further dragon heads and framing standing stiles carved as clusters of lingzhi, the legs of rounded square section joined by a footrest and stepped stretchers, with aprons and spandrels carved with archaistic kui dragons on the front, and plain beaded aprons and spandrels on the sides
