TWO SMALL JADE ANIMAL CARVINGS
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
One a recumbent camel of pale greenish-grey and brown color, with head facing forward and legs tucked under the body, with finely incised hair markings on the sides and back, some areas of the stone with opaque alteration; the other a mythical beast shown in a recumbent position with head turned to the side, with short beard, rounded eyes, a short horn between the ears, wings incised with key fret rising from the front haunches, flames on the rear haunches, a knobbed backbone and trifurcated tail, the mottled stone shading from white to reddish brown
