A LARGE BRONZE HU-FORM VASE
YUAN DYNASTY (1279-1368)
Of attenuated pear shape, raised on a spreading foot cast with a band of archaistic decoration, the waisted neck encircled by a diaper band and flanked by a pair of C-scroll handles issuing from horned dragon heads and suspending large flat, oblong rings, with mottled green patina

Lot Essay

Compare a much smaller bronze vase (25.9 cm.) of similar form, also dated to the Yuan dynasty, with wave pattern around the foot and taotie mask on the neck between dragon-head handles, in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, included in the exhibition, Age of the Great Khan: Pluralism in Chinese Art and Culture Under the Mongols, Taipei, 2001, p. 121, no. IV-4.
