A LARGE DEHUA TRIPOD CENSER
17TH/18TH CENTURY
Raised on three tall, tapering columnar legs, the bulbous body molded in low relief with a band of confronted pairs of dragons reserved on a fine leiwen ground set between bow-string borders, with a pair of bail handles rising from the flat rim, covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone

Provenance
Acquired by the grandfather of the present owners, Whampoa, Guangdong, circa 1890 - 1920s, thence by descent within the family.

Lot Essay

A censer of identical size in the Qing Court Collection, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 37 - Monochrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1999, no. 108.

A similar, but smaller (15.8 cm. high), censer was included in the exhibition, Blanc de Chine, S. Marchant & Son, London, 1 - 17 November 2006, no. 71; and another, also of smaller size (13.2 cm. high), is illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994, p. 298, no. 995.
