FOUR-CHARACTER INSCRIBED MARK, SHAN GAO SHUI CHANG, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Of quadrilobed section, with a pair of elephant-head handles, covered with a finely mottled glaze of dark olive green thinning to tortoiseshell on the mouth rim, inner ribs and handles, the base similarly glazed and the foot covered with a blackish dressing
6 1/8 in. (15.8 cm.) high
Provenance
Acquired by the grandfather of the present owners, Whampoa, Guangdong, circa 1890 - 1920s, thence by descent within the family.

Lot Essay

The mark, shan gao shui chang, 'high mountain, long river', was used during the Qianlong and Xianfeng periods.
