A JUNYAO TRIPOD 'NARCISSUS' BOWL
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
Made in imitation of Yuan/early Ming dynasty prototypes, the bulbous bowl supported on three ruyi feet, the sides decorated with two rows of evenly spaced 'drum-nail' bosses, the exterior covered with a mottled and streaked glaze of milky blue and reddish-purple color thinning to olive-brown on the raised areas, the interior covered with a milky blue-green glaze, the base covered with an olive-toned glaze surrounding a ring of circular spur marks, inscribed on the back of one foot with the numeral si, 'four'

Acquired by the grandfather of the present owners, Whampoa, Guangdong, circa 1890 - 1920s, thence by descent within the family.
