A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE WRISTREST

Carved in relief in the form of a bamboo node with trailing leafy branches to one side, the reverse with four incised characters reading junzi zhifeng, 'of a gentleman's style,' the stone of a pale celadon tone with some russet inclusions

Compare the jade wristrest of similar shape in the Alan and Simone Hartman Collection, illustrated by Robert Kleiner in Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, New York, 1996, p. 117, no. 97. Compare, also, a Ming example with the signature of Lu Zigang in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Great National Treasures of China, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1994, no. 84.
