JIAJING SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)
The cover with a raised quatrefoil panel painted with a central roundel of a dragon amidst scrolling clouds surrounded by sprays of lingzhi, above alternating scenes of phoenixes and cranes in flight amidst further clouds and babao at the indented corners, the rim with a border of key fret repeated on the box, decorated in similar fashion with phoenixes and cranes above a double-line border encircling the foot of conforming shape
