This table à écrire is decorated with naïve marquetry of vases and utensils in the chinoiserie taste popularized by Charles Topino, maître in 1773, and is derived from Chinese coromandel lacquer and porcelain from the Kangxi period (1662-1722).

A comparable table with marquetry panels attributed to Topino was made for Marie-Antoinette at Versailles and a pair sold at Christie's, London, 5 July 2007, lot 217 (£120,000). François Linke, inspired by these examples, is recorded to have made this model, index number 1678, between 1920 and 1926. Linke kept one example at his apartment at 32 Quai Henri IV, which sold at Sotheby's New York, A Private Collection Volume II, 19 April 2007, lot 75 ($39,000) and is shown in-situ in a black and white photograph reproduced in C. Payne, François Linke, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 237, pl. 312.

Please see lot 117 for a note on François Linke.
