FINE WINES FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTOR INCLUDING A PARCEL OF TAYLOR 1955, TOP QUALITY BORDEAUX AND RED BURGUNDY FROM STYLISH PRODUCERS
Recently removed by Christie's Wine Department staff from an excellent private cellar in the UK following long-term ownership by the vendor. Most of the wines were purchased when young and have remained in the same underground home cellar since that time.
Now lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD)
Lots marked ## are offered duty-paid, but available in bond
Taylor--Vintage 1955
Lots 228 and 229 Army and Navy bottling. Corroded metal capsules. Remains of bin-soiled and damaged labels. Lot 230 eleven with plain metal capsules and one with embossed wax capsule. Lot 231 some bottled by Henekeys and one by Hunter and Oliver. Wax capsules, three embossed. Lot 232 nine bottled by Hunter and Oliver and labelled, three bottled by John Harveys and Sons and with embossed wax capsules. Lot 233 damaged embossed wax capsules. No labels. All levels top-shoulder or better
Tasting Note: An opaque blockbuster when young, astringent and unready up until the early 1980s. In the early 1990s still fairly deep-coloured; a vast, deep, high-toned, spicy nose, fairly sweet, full-bodied, packed with fruit, extract and tannin and acidity. Then, in April 1993, served at a state banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the President of Portugal (impressive: occasion and wine). Last noted at a dinner in Los Angeles, Feb 1998 **** (Possibly I am being ungenerous, for it is far from fading) M.B.
