THE GREAT 1982 VINTAGE
A milestone. The combination of richness and perceived quality matched the economic climate. It was the first really important, and well-timed, vin de garde since 1970. Rich tannic wines resulted. It should not be suprising that after a quarter of a century most '82's are more than fully mature and virtually all the lesser clarets should have been consumed. The best, however, are superb. M.B.
Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD)
Château Latour--Vintage 1982
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
In original tissues. Very good labels and levels
Tasting note: Surprisingly sweet and delicious despite its tannic grip at the turn of the century. 'Old oak', chocolate and tannic in 2003. Most recently: richly coloured; very fragrant, classic, cedar bouquet; very good fruit, flavour of 'sugared almonds', tannic, impressive. Last tasted July 2005 ****(*)M.B.
