One side inscribed QUIS TEMPERY A LACHRIMIS FANIT 30 1648 above an engraved heart pierced with two arrows, the back further inscribed FINUSTA MEA NOX above a skull, the cover lifting out to reveal an interior concealed portrait of Charles I in profile on a brown enamel ground; together with a Royalist revival woven silk sash, 18th century, with the legend GOD BLESS THE KING AND DOWN WITH THE RUMP; and a set of 52 17th century playing cards depicting scenes from 'The Popish Plot'
