A LARGE CHARLES I SILVER AND GILT-METAL ROYALIST RELIQUARY PENDANT IN THE FORM OF A BOOK
UNMARKED, CIRCA 1649
The cover applied with an openwork gold "jewel" incorporating three crystals and a white enamelled crown and Royal cipher, decorated in white, red, blue and green enamel, the hinged cover opening to reveal a cut-out portrait of Charles I in profile on one side and, on the other side, a piece of blood-stained cloth, the inside of the spine set with three faceted crystals, the front and back covers each decorated on one side with two fleurs-de-lys which connected two straps (now lacking) that served to fasten the locket
