Temples at Palitana, India

In 1897 Bauer made a journey to India, arriving in Palitana in January 1898. In a sketchbook in the collection of the Teylers Museum, Haarlem, one finds a draught comparable to the present lot. (cf. literature: M. Jansen, Marius Bauer 1867-1932 Reisimpressies uit India en de Orient, Heino 1991.).
