Piet Meiners (1857-1903) Born in Oosterbeek in 1857, Piet Meiners received his first artistic training from his father, the landscapist Claas Hendrik Meiners. After spending a brief period under the tutelage of B.L. Hendriks at the 'Tekenschool Kunstoefening' in Arnhem, Meiners developed close ties with Witsen and spent several months with him in the studio of the Belgian artist Karel Verlat. The artist primarily painted landscapes, interiors, portraits and still lifes. For the latter he was especially highly regarded. At the age of forty-six the artist died in Lage Vuursche.
