Lot Essay

A very similar Kuba kelleh in size and design, dated AH 1222/1807 AD, but with a reversed colour scheme of an ivory lattice field with a dark blue border, was at Näsby House, Sweden, (F.R.Martin, A History of Oriental Carpets, State and Court Printing Office, Vienna, 1908, pl.XXIII), and was later loaned by Vojtech Blau, for "The Grand Gallery" exhibition, 19 October, 1974 - 5 January, 1975, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
