Lot Essay
There are various accounts referring to an 'Alireza-ye 'Abbasi. Both Bayani and Karimzadeh believe that there were two artists with such a name - one a calligrapher, the other a painter. A manuscript which sold in these Rooms, 7 October 2008, lot 349, demonstrated through the colophon (which stated that 'Alireza-ye 'Abbasi was responsible for copying, illustrating and illuminating the manuscript) that there was an 'Alireza-ye 'Abbasi who was a calligrapher and illuminater as well as a painter.
