On medicine, Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 326ff. as numbered plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 19ll. of black nasta'liq, text panels outlined with gold and black rules, catchwords, important words and phrases picked out in red, folios numbered in pen in the upper left hand corners, occasional marginal notes in a similar hand, gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, frontispiece with possibly added title in gold on cobalt-blue ground, minor areas of spotting and staining, in brown morocco binding with flap with central gilt stamped medallions, marbled paper doublures

Lot Essay

In the preface the author Mahmud bin Muhammad 'Abdullah bin Mahmud says that he went to Shiraz in 902 (1496-7) and stayed there for 30 years studying under Jalal al-Din Muhammad al-Sidiqi al-Dawani. He then decided to write a book in Persian on the subject and named it after Khan bin Khan bin Khan bin Khan bin (...) Abu'l-Mansur Sultan Sa'id Bahadur Khan. Abu'l-Mansur Sultan Sa'id Bahadur Khan is unidentified.
