Lot Essay

The illuminated panels of the opening bifolio are decorated with scrolls of tapering split palmettes with small nodes attached to the tendrils that are very similar to that found on a Qur'an dated 1375-6 that bear the name of Turan-Shah, vizir of Shah Shuja', ruler of Shiraz between 1357 and 1384 (David James, Qur'ans of the Mamluks, London, p.196, fig.138).
