Of rectangular form, the vertical axis marked by a stylized foliate spray rising from a vase to a cross-shaped motif, a cusped medallion above, within a frame of chequered chevrons, flanked by panels of four-pointed stars, two scalloped motifs within small cusped cartouches above, the border with a line of chequered motifs, fixed with round-headed nails, the composition laid down on wood, fixed with round-headed nails, replacements

Lot Essay

A door of very similar composition and materials, but much more elaborate workmanship, signed by Yacob and dated 1731, is in the Armenian Cathedral of Saint James, Jerusalem (Bezalel Narkiss (ed.), Armenian Art Treasures of Jerusalem, London, 1980, fig.171, p.127).
