In the Moorish style, the dark bronze face of each combining to form a design of a central pierced applied copper medallion with finely interlaced arabesques extending into four pendants, the angled spandrels similar, within a border of similar applied dense interlaced arabesques linking stellar medallions, an open panel above and below with upper and lower interlaced arabesque cresting, the sides fitted with hinges, the plain wood reverse with keyholes and loops for three hooks

Lot Essay

The design for these doors is taken almost directly from ones published as being, somewhat confusingly, from the "mosque of al-Khanqah" in Cairo, dating from the 18th century (Prisse d'Avennes, Arab Art, Paris, 1877, pl.106).
