Lot Essay

The present drawing follows the only autograph print by Bloemaert (see: J. Bolten, Abraham Bloemaert, The Drawings, 2007, fig. 566a). Four other copies are listed under nrs. 566b-e. Boëtius Adamsz. Bolswert also copied the composition for one of his prints.
