Lot Essay

The coat-of-arms are those of Gale impaling Bennet and represent Matthias Gale of Catgill Hall, Cumberland (1724-1771) and his wife, Jane, daughter of the Rev. Dr. Thomas Bennett, vicar of St Giles, Cripplegate, London.
