"The vineyards at Montrose are 65 Cabernet Sauvignon and 8 Cabernet Franc, with 25 Merlot and the balance Petit Verdot. Always structured and firm, this wine evolves only with time to show its true potential. The 1996 Montrose is a vintage that shows the breed of this property in that it has all of the structure of the vintage, but none of the excessive tannin to which some St.-Estephe properties were subject. On the nose, the wine shows a bit of bell pepper, black pepper, and ripe black fruits, while on the palate the wine is firm, tannic and structured with great length." CC, Tasted September 2008
