WHY MUST ALL GOOD THINGS IN LIFE COME TO AN END?
MARVELOUS SELECTIONS FROM THE FORMER L'ORANGERIE
NYWinesChristie's is proud to present this marvelously extensive collection from the renowned L'Orangerie Restaurant, a bastion of French haute cuisine, based in Los Angeles. The dream of creating a top French cuisine destination from the ground up in the West Coast's most populous city was born just over 31 years ago on February 3, 1978.
The imaginative architecture called for expansive and open design elements, a new concept for Los Angeles at the time. During its existence only nine chefs have ever manned the stoves of this legendary kitchen.
As a focal point for haute cuisine in Los Angeles, the regulars included Hollywood royalty, international personalities, and most famously Ronald and Nancy Reagan. In December 2006, Gourmet Magazine stated, "L'Orangerie was warm. Stylish, sexy. It became the kind of place you saved up for, bought new clothes for, begged to be taken to."
The last firing of the stove came December 31, 2006 under the skillful hands of arguably its most talented French chef, Jérôme Voltat. Voltat's classical training in the kitchen was equally matched with classics from France's greatest vineyards, primarily Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône Valley.
Sommelier Emmanuel Faure built an extremely well manicured list of intelligent selections for both connoisseur and novice alike. Nearly one hundred percent of the following selection was purchased on release and often in extensive quantities.
As a general rule this collection was kept in excellent underground professionally maintained storage. As one might expect in a collection curated by a classically trained sommelier, our Specialist team found the selection for sale to be in superb general condition. As stated, much of the collection was purchased in case quantities from reputable local fine wine distributors. We have gone to great lengths to note even the most minor blemish so as to offer the buyer greater confidence in his/her purchases.
