This tapestry originally belonged to a set of identical tapestries, all signed by the same weavers, and include one sold anonymously, Sotheby's, New York, 13 and 15 January 1992, lot 510 as well as one recorded in the French & Co archives.

Frans van der Hecke (d. 1675) was a member of a large tapestry weaving dynasty that started with his father, Leo, in 1575 and continued into the mid-18th century. He obtained the weaving privileges in 1629 and was dean of the craft from 1640 to 1641.

The unidenified monogram to the top right guard border may be that of an as of yet unidentified tapestry merchant.
