Both incised and dated Taxile Doat 1881, the front signed with a DT monogram
Each finely painted and hand-tooled in white slip with a muse and putto, emblematic of either Architecture or History, within a gilt enriched Bérainesque surround
4¾ x 3 1/8 in. (12 x 8 cm.), within a gilt-metal frame (2)

Lot Essay

When Taxile Doat joined the National Manufactory at Sèvres in 1877, he retained the privilege of maintaining an independent atelier. It is likely that the present lot was fired at 47 Rue de Brancas.
