Lot Essay
This jar was possibly made for funerary use. Although found in Britain, it could well have been imported from the continent. For a cinerary urn of identical form, now in Koblenz Museum, cf. J. Harden et al., Masterpieces of Glass, British Museum, London, 1968, p. 83, no. 109, for a handled flagon with similar ribbing found in a grave in Kent.
