A LARGE RED GROUND COPTIC TEXTILE FRAGMENT
7TH-9TH CENTURY A.D.
Woven with rows of roundels and foliate motifs, filled with stylized leaves and flower motifs, with remains of bright polychrome, 32 in. (81 cm.) long; and a group of Coptic textile tunic fragments including two leaf motifs; a monochrome double band border fragment with scrolling foliate pattern; two narrow border fragments, both with scrolling pattern interspersed with animals and flowers; and a clavus terminating in a stylized tree with crosses either side, all 4th-8th Century A.D., 13 in. (33 cm.) long max. (11)
