Lot Essay

Julia Keasberry, later wife of Thomas Nathaniel Peach, M.P., was the daughter of William Keasberry who was manager of the Theatre Royal in Bath. As a child she made frequent appearances on the stage at Bath between 1777 and 1784. In about 1800 she moved to Newton, Cambridgeshire, with her husband.
Beach is known to have been an enthusiastic attender of plays in Bath and is recorded as also having painted William Keasberry and his wife in circa 1797-8 (E. Beach, Thomas Beach, 1934, pp. 9 and 65, nos. 178-9).
